The UCC and Psychedelics
The United Church of Christ is a leader among denominations in expanding cultural & spiritual perspectives, and supporting paths toward human healing. This boldness is core to our historic commitment to a Still-Speaking God.
One of the languages God speaks is science. Another is personal revelation: how we personally encounter the Divine in our lives. Both are pertinent to the emerging psychedelic movement.
Perhaps you’ve heard about the increased use of psychedelics for healing a variety of mental health conditions, from depression to OCD to PTSD, end-of-life anxiety and more.
Maybe your city or state has put the decriminalization of psilocybin on the ballot, and you had questions about how you should vote. Maybe you know someone who has personally had a positive (or negative) experience of using LSD, MDMA or other molecules, and you want to understand more about their safety and efficacy.
Are they just like other illegal drugs - are they potentially addictive and destructive? If not, how is this genre of substances different?
Most pertinently: what role can these medicines play in spirituality & well-being, in a changing and challenging world? And what is the church's place in this conversation?
Join a conversation with other UCC folk who are interested in talking about the psychedelic re-emergence: unpacking myths, tracking facts, and considering how God might be speaking through these new/old medicines.
The next conversation will be held on July 27th - 4pm PT/7pm ET.
